Stefan Brüggemann

Stefan Brüggemann, born in Mexico City 1975, works between Mexico and London. Working with neon lights, vinyl lettering, or painted texts, his work spans between - and sometimes combines - sculpture, video, painting, and drawing to create and deploy text in conceptual installations. These installations are rich with acerbic social critique and a post pop aesthetic. The artists nature is characterized by an ironic merging of Conceptualism and Minimalism.

The choice of words used in these paintings and installations are typically provocative, acerbic and topical, utilized for both form and meaning. Brüggemann’s word play create a bold and pertinent body of work, focusing on themes of appropriation and displacement.

Since the late 1990’s, Brüggemann’s work has been shown around the world at exhibitions including; Venice Biennale, The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, The Moving Museum in Dubai, and the Museum of Installation in London. His work is found in numerous public collections such as those of the Albright Knox Art Gallery, the Marguiles Collection, and the Colección Jumex in Mexico City, Brüggemann’s hometown.
